SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Fall 2023
Overviewed the concept of sustainable development from a transdisciplinary perspective. Studied sustainability from wide variety of disciplines, including planning, policy, economic, business, law, and environmental science. Explored the many dimensions of sustainability and how national, multinational, and international political and legal mechanisms can be used to further sustainable development.


ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING STUDIO
Fall 2022
Assisted the City of Falls Church by creating a framework for them to create a Bicycle Master Plan. Collaborated with classmates to research and present best practices of bicycle planning, including NACTO guidelines and municipalities designated as Bicycle Friendly Cities by the League of American Bicyclists. Worked with classmates to design and suggest potential new bicycle routes and estimated their costs.
MULTICULTURAL PLANNING
Fall 2023
Studied the relationship between race, place, poverty, and power--including the contradiction of rapid growth and deepening inequalities. Explored how cities are not only experienced, but imagined differently by different individuals and communities. Researched environmental justice, housing, access to public services, education, public health, and more.


ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STUDIO
Spring 2023
Cooperated with classmates to research the emerging trend of remote work. Worked for Main Street America to help localities strengthen their remote worker and resident attraction efforts. Used Census Data to perform quantitative analyses. Helped refine a remote work suitability index developed by Main Street America.
SYSTEMS THINKING
Fall 2022
Examined principles of social ecology and systems theory. Analyzed research and policy from a broad interdisciplinary perspective links basic theory and research with community problem-solving. For my final project, analyzed the national housing crisis to find leverage points that could potentially slow or reverse it.


COLLABORATIVE PLANNING
Fall 2022
Overviewed public participation in planning and decision-making. Studied a variety of tools for community involvement and dispute resolution. Practiced civic engagement process design.
LAND USE PLANNING
Spring 2023
Overviewed principles, strategies, and tools of local-level urban land use planning. Considered information requirements for planning, policy considerations, environmental analysis, residential and non-residential land use needs, planned communities, and a range of planning tools and put them into practice through real-world planning exercises.

PLANNING STUDIO
Fall 2018
Implemented the planning process to work with local government officials, citizens, and classmates to write the general plan for Gunnison, Utah.
PROVO CITY LAB
Fall 2018
Worked with the Provo City planning department, citizens, and classmates to write the urban design chapter of the master plan for Provo River Corridor.
INTERMEDIATE GIS
Winter 2018
Collected, managed, and analyzed spatial data to solve geographic tasks. Solved for a least cost analysis to build a future highway in the Spanish Fork, Utah area.
PLANNING FOR SENSITIVE LANDS
Winter 2019
Applied landscape architecture and ecological principles in land-use planning. Defined unique aspects of various lands to determine the sensitivity of it. Sought to better understand how to design with nature rather than against it.
PUBLIC LANDS
Winter 2019
A study of the environmental and social geography of global protective land use designations including national parks, wilderness, and conservation areas.

Explored natural disasters and the role of human behavior in causing them, mitigating them, and planning land uses for them.

Studied theories, principles, and policies of transportation planning including trip generations, flow theory, and an introduction to transportation modeling. Introduced to a number of transportation issues, including environmental issues, energy issues, economic issues, and social issues. Networked with Utah Transportation Planners.
