These are projects I worked on during my graduate education at Virginia Tech.

FALLS CHURCH BICYCLE PLAN
Fall 2022
-
Assisted the City of Falls Church by creating a framework for them to create a Bicycle Master Plan.

Collaborated with 8 classmates to research and present best practices of bicycle planning, including NACTO guidelines and municipalities designated as Bicycle Friendly Cities by the League of American Bicyclists.

Examined best practices from approximately 20 American municipalities.
-
Worked with classmates to design and suggest potential new bicycle routes and estimated their costs.

REMOTE WORK RESEARCH PROJECT
Spring 2023

Cooperated with 9 classmates to research the emerging trend of remote work and its implications on the discipline of economic development.

Worked for Main Street America to help localities strengthen their remote worker and resident attraction efforts.

Used Census Data to perform quantitative analyses. Helped refine a remote work suitability index developed by Main Street America.

UNDERGRADUATE PROJECTS
These are some of the applied projects I led or participated in during my undergraduate education in Provo, Utah.

FILLMORE, UTAH GENERAL PLAN
DECEMBER 2018- NOVEMBER 2019
Mentor to Project Manager
Trained 15 students to write the Fillmore City, Utah general plan by mentoring the project manager to be able to fulfill her responsibilities and helping students find answers to questions relating to their assigned chapter of the General Plan.
Designed a city-wide public input survey for a city with a population of 2,000. Helped the students analyze that feedback.
Guided the students to render 8 charette maps in ESRI ArcMap for 2 public open houses.
Taught the project manager and her assistant how to present data and public input monthly to city officials. Assisted in that presentation when necessary.
Under the direction of the project manager, wrote the moderate income housing section of the general plan.

GUNNISON, UTAH GENERAL PLAN
AUGUST 2018 - DECEMBER 2018
General Plan Project Manager
Lead a team of 9 students to write the Gunnison City general plan.
Presented to city officials twice monthly to gather input and feedback.
Utilized census data to project future population growth.
Determined natural disaster risk and potential environmental impact of future development in the environment chapter of the plan.
Created a tourism opportunity plan as part of the economic development chapter.
Rendered 11 maps in ArcMap for public open house charrettes.

PROVO CITY LAB
SEPTEMBER 2018 - DECEMBER 2018
Planning Specialist
Served as the Urban Design Specialist for a team of students tasked with writing the Provo River Master Plan.
Taught 4 other non-planning students on that team how to write that Master Plan.
Researched potential impacts of future urban development.
Recommended urban design standards regarding development along the Provo riverfront to the Provo City Council.
Assessed the risk of flooding and suggested options to the City Council to mitigate damage.
Created a land use map representing a future urban riverwalk using ESRI ArcMap.
Considered traffic and transportation implications for vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians in an area designated for a future urban riverwalk in the Master Plan.
Engaged the public by presenting data, examples, and recommendations in a biweekly stakeholders meeting. Gathered their input and feedback to put into the plan.

NORTH UTAH COUNTY FOOTHILL TRAILS PROJECT
JANUARY 2018 - APRIL 2018
Project Manager
Under the direction of regional planners, led 10 classmates to digitize hundreds of user-made trails, game trails, and access roads along the northern rim of Utah County.
Presented our data to trail user groups by creating 5 charette maps.
Discussed with stakeholders ways to manage trails that would be considerate of the environment, be sustainable, and enjoyable for the public.
